PEDS - Information for Centers

Would you like to participate in the Clean Air for Carolina Kids Study?

Why should my child care center participate?

Your center’s participation will help provide important information that parents, early educators, and policy makers can use to support healthy children.

We will provide free air quality monitoring equipment to your center to monitor common air quality contaminants. We will provide recommendations so your center can continue supporting children’s health and development.

You can start the enrollment process now!

What is involved with our center’s participation?

  • When you enroll, we will ask you a few questions about environmental health practices at your center.

  • A member of our team would visit you center to set up air quality monitoring equipment along with a solar array to power the equipment, so no nearby wall outlets are required.

Visit our Research page to learn more, or contact a member of our study team with any questions.

What chemicals are we testing for?

We are testing for common air quality parameters that children might regularly encounter in their day-to-day life.

We will test for PM2.5 and ozone. Each of these common air quality parameters has been shown to impact children’s development.

Learn more about the chemicals we are testing for and why we are testing for them.

How can I reduce chemical exposures at my child care center?

You cannot see, smell, or taste most airborne contaminants. Even centers that meet all sanitation requirements are still at risk for many common chemical exposures!

The air outside your child care center can impact long term lung development and lead to issues such as asthma.

Our team of children’s environmental health experts will also provide recommendations based on current air quality such as remaining inside during poor air quality days caused by wildfires.
