Program Sample Analysis

The Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids™ program relies on several certified or accredited laboratories to analyze samples collected by facility staff and lead-based paint and asbestos professionals during the program. This includes both RTI International Laboratories and our partner laboratories.

Lead in Water Sample Analysis

Water samples are collected directly by trained facility staff and are shipped back to RTI International using the included pre-paid shipping label. The RTI International Trace Metals Laboratory then analyzes water samples using state-of-the-science laboratory equipment that allows the program to detect lead in water at levels as low as 0.1 parts per billion (ppb). The RTI International Trace Metals Laboratory is certified by the state of North Carolina for EPA Method 200.8. Please note that this program does not analyze water for contaminants other than lead.

Lead-Based Paint Sample Analysis

If your facility requires an on-site visit from a certified lead risk assessor, the assessor may collect samples during their assessment—including samples of paint, dust, or soil—to identify if there could be lead-based paint hazards present at your facility. Any collected paint, dust, or soil samples will be analyzed at the RTI International Environmental Lead Laboratory accredited through the Environmental Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELLAP).

Asbestos-Containing Material Sample Analysis

If your facility requires an on-site visit from an accredited asbestos inspector, they may collect samples of building materials during their inspection to identify if these materials contain asbestos. Any collected samples will be analyzed at an RTI-designated laboratory accredited through the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP).
